Mission Statement

The Mathematics Department provides a variety of mathematics courses appropriate for students of diverse entry-level skills and academic goals. Students acquire the skills necessary to further their education or to pursue a career in their desired field. We emphasize quantitative and abstract reasoning in problem solving using a variety of techniques and technologies. In addition, we aim to articulate and instill students with our shared experience that the mastery of mathematics is rewarding and accessible to all.

In our courses, students will
  • develop the ability to solve mathematical problems through a process of conceptual and logical reasoning;
  • demonstrate creativity in problem solving, and critical reasoning so that they will derive benefits from their training throughout their lives;
  • demonstrate the integration of quantitative literacy and technological fluency to enhance insight into mathematics;
  • acquire the skills necessary to pursue further studies; and
  • apply mathematical knowledge to contexts within other disciplines.
